Artist Statement
My creative practice responds to the complex issues of contextual integration and separation that surface when using environmental field recordings as musical material. Developing novel ways to unite reductive and relative aesthetics through a spatial medium impels and informs the activities of my composition process at all times. I use the creative practices of field recording, fixed media composition and software programming to highlight and respond to the issues implicit in the production of environmentally mediated spaces through sound.
Biography
Nic McConaghy is a composer of acousmatic music. His creative practice explores different approaches to composing with environmental sound in fixed media contexts. He actively engages in researching numerous elements of composition, music technology, recording, electroacoustics and ecoacoustic composition. He uses an array of emerging and extant technologies to develop novel approaches to composition based on field recordings of the natural world.
